Veterinary care for a dog is a must. It helps stop potentially hazardous diseases that will detract from its quality of life. I think animals generally live longer in human care is because they have veterinary care. Most of the time it is go once get a bunch of shots and be done. However like health care for a child there are regular check-ups and emergency visits that any family member should receive.

I will draw the line at something like cancer that will most likely kill the dog no matter what. Why put him/her through the agony of todays "modern" cancer care, when putting them to sleep is far more humane.

The real question is, would you put your child through that kind of agony just to carry on your "legacy"? If so, it seems like you would be treating your dog better than your child.

Watching a dog grow and become part of the family is an amazing experience. Dogs usually find their own jobs to do around the house, and if it a good dog it is usually the role of protector. I couldn't imagine living life with a good dog by my side.

I think you thought of the right question to ask when considering dog ownership, I think the price of owning a dog is a small price to pay.

Just remember, get a big dog! GSD for life! :D

Yes, there are better ways of doing this. Unfortunately, these ways were made possible quite a bit after I started my deck. Now that I'm so close to finishing, it seems less work to continue what I'm doing than to start over with a better system. I like your ideas though and I would recommend them to anyone who is just starting out on this wonderful RTK journey. :)

"It has pretty cool forums which will be a great time leech if you ever venture that way." It's so true!

By the way, on the last little bit there - you know you can create extra fields, right? I have an extra field for stories for which the text colour is the same as the background by default (you can change individual fields in the Fonts and Colours box). Might save a little time, if nothing else ;)

Also, as a more general point - wouldn't it make more sense timewise to just use the pre-built Heisig deck and unsuspend cards as you get to them? It takes long enough to learn the Kanji in the first place without the extra steps of copy-pasting everything. Just my two cents ;)
